Maya Bauer – Biography
I qualified as a Physiotherapist from the University of Manchester in 1988 and have worked extensively in both private practice and the NHS as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner. My clinical work has focused on the assessment, diagnosis and management of complex musculoskeletal conditions, with particular expertise in spinal disorders. Supporting people to move more comfortably has always been at the heart of what I do.
My journey with Pilates became personal while I was completing my MSc in Advanced Physiotherapy Practice. I developed severe pain from a herniated disc in my neck and I discovered how frustrating and limiting spinal pain can be. Once my symptoms began to settle I turned to Pilates to gently rebuild my strength and mobility. The results were transformative – not only did my neck pain improve, but many of the persistence aches and pains in my body resolved as well. I experienced firsthand how Pilates can improve posture, increase strength, enhance flexibility and help support long term health.
Inspired by these benefits I trained as a Pilates teacher with Body Control Pilates and later completed a comprehensive 600+ hour classical apprenticeship with Exhale Pilates, London. This extensive training enables me to teach across the full range of studio equipment including reformer, Cadillac, chairs, ladder barrel and pedi-pole work as well as matwork.
I now provide private one to one and duet sessions for clients aged 16 to their 90’s, using a range of Pilates equipment to create highly individualised programmes tailored to rehabilitation, injury prevention, performance enhancement and healthy aging.
My aim is to create a calm, supportive environment where we can work together to help you achieve your goals, feel stronger, more resilient and comfortable in your body – so you can continue to do the things you love.
